Sketchbook Series | Tuesday Night Musicians

A few years ago I asked for a great challenge (from Earl Reece at the Earl Smith Strand) for my show that year. Earl mentioned how much he loved the musicians I had done a few years prior and how great he thought a show full of musicians would be. After my initial excitement I realized that I was quite rusty at painting people (it had been years after all). I pushed through and had a blast getting ready for that show through finding musicians who were not only wonderful to listen to but fun to sketch as well.

A Fun Filled July!

Summer has wrapped up and it is back to school time! That means that my blissful time as a full time artist is reduced to part time bliss of creating and full time bliss of teaching. In case you’ve been following along, I won’t bore you with a summer recap (but do check out the pictures and posts from ‘Americana the Beautiful‘ and our road trip if you haven’t already do so!).

Sketchbook Series | Discover The…

I don’t even remember the exact assignment. I blocked it out of my memory. It was done during my time at the Creative Circus; from what I remember we had to choose a culture, insect, museum and create an ‘exhibit’ to brand. This assignment caused nights often lasting until 4am cutting, collaging, meticulously gluing and self-critiquing just to be told the next day by the professor that “ehhh, it’s okay.” It was good for my character, right?

Art For Charity: Donating Art From An Artists Perspective

Most artists are extremely charitable people. It goes along with the profession; there is a certain degree of feeling and emotion in everything we create as artists and in the way many artists view the world around us. Worthwhile causes strike a cord and tug at the heartstrings of most of us (many of you know that I’m a sucker for helpless animals among other amazing causes). There are so many fabulous charities that make such a big difference that turn to artists for much needed fundraising efforts and artists are often happy to give what they can. Art raises an astonishing amount of money for some extremely worthwhile charities. This post is for both artists and for those who seek art for charity fundraising.
